Ergometry, also called stress test, is the diagnostic test that consists of recording the electrocardiogram during a controlled effort. Procedure The test is carried out in the outpatient clinic.
It requires that the patient not smoke for at least 8 hours before the study, be equipped with loose and comfortable clothing, and appropriate footwear (sneakers or similar) for walking or running. Upon arrival, you will be explained how to do it.
Adhesive electrodes are placed on the chest (if there is hair, it is necessary to shave), it is connected to the equipment and, following the instructions, you must walk or run on a treadmill or stationary bicycle.
The patient must inform the medical staff present at the test of any incident that may occur (fatigue, tiredness, chest pain, palpitations, dyspnea, etc.).
BP and ECG are controlled at all times. If, during the performance of the exercise, the patient presents angina, the test is said to have been clinically positive (otherwise, the test is considered clinically negative).
